Carrot Dog Biscuits
As you’ve probably come to realize, I love to make treats for the girls and Traveler. Sometimes, these recipes are a flop and sometimes they work out perfectly, but regardless, my taste testers are usually enthusiastic regardless of the outcome! This one is from another tasty treat creating site that I stumbled across, and I think it was a win-win all around.
I think after trying this clever idea, I may have to see what other jarred treats I can sneak into their cookies…This is a new one for me since I’ve never used baby food in a recipe really, but Traveler was enthusiastic about them, so that must mean it turned out okay, right? I know all three of ours are like bottomless pits and are carrot fiends, but I like to think that they liked them for more reasons than just because I had food in my hand and they wanted whatever it was. A bouncy, treat loving terrier wouldn’t lie, now would he? And certainly not two enthusiastic, big, feed me know, darked eyed Aussies?
I didn’t think so.
Again, I am all about the simple ingredients, so this has a really small list.
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 jar carrot baby food
a sprinkle garlic powder (optional)
Mix it all together. I cheated and just used the dough hook on my kitchenaid and added water when it looked too dry-but the dough should be sticky and a little dry once it’s all combined.
Roll out your dough on a floured surface to 1/4″ thickness and cut out with your choice of cookie cutter. My options were limited, and I couldn’t find my doggy ones, so mine were star and heart shaped.
Bake in the over at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes, but keep an eye on them if your cookies are small or large as the baking time will vary accordingly. Mine were nice and golden at about 24 minutes.
As usual with homemade treats, store them in an airtight container to help them last a little longer. Remember, these treats don’t have the preservatives that prepackaged ones do, so they will spoil a little quicker! I ended up tossing a baggy into the freezer after they had cooled so the supply will last longer.
Let me know how your furry loves like these and stop by Dukes and Duchesses to thank them for another wonderful recipe!
